Carole
Simpson is an Emmy Award-winning ABC News senior correspondent.
She was the anchor of World News Tonight Sunday from 1988-2003.
Her reports have appeared on World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,
Good Morning America, 20/20, Nightline and
numerous ABC Special Events programs.
Simpson joined ABC News from NBC News in 1982. During the 1992 presidential
campaign, she was moderator of the second presidential debate. She was
one of the reporters on the critically acclaimed documentary, Black
in White America.
In 1990, Simpson helped anchor ABC's live coverage of the release of
Nelson Mandela from prison in South Africa. She has also anchored many
major breaking news stories, including the Senate impeachment trial
of President Bill Clinton, the Persian Gulf War, the Tiananmen Square
massacre and events surrounding the Oklahoma City bombing.
Ms. Simpson has received numerous awards for her reporting on social
issues. In addition to two duPont-Columbia Awards, she won the Milestone
in Broadcasting award from the National Commission on Working Women
and the Joseph Medill Distinguished Journalism Award from the Chicago
Historical Society. In 1992, the National Association of Black Journalists
named her Journalist of the Year. In 1999, Ms. Simpson was inducted
into the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame.
