About IWMF: Board of Directors

Carolan Stiles is the founder and president of Blue Creek Foundation, which focuses on core environmental issues around water quality. The goal of the foundation is to bring about change through direct legal action, education and coalition building.

Throughout her career, Stiles has been committed to environmental, media and women’s issues. Her work experience includes working with homeless women and children in Seattle and teaching in an urban elementary school in Los Angeles. She holds a master’s in social work and a law degree.

As a sixth-generation member of a small media family that technically retains voting control over its 150-year-old newspaper company, McClatchy Inc., Stiles works with the company’s management and directors to navigate through issues facing publishers in the age of electronic media.
