Elisa Munoz
Director of Research and Training
Elisa Munoz is the IWMF’s director of research and training. She oversees the organization’s fundraising as well as design and implementation of its training programs. One of her key responsibilities is managing the annual Courage in Journalism Awards program.
Before joining the IWMF, Munoz was executive director of the Crimes of War Education Project, a Washington, DC-based organization dedicated to raising awareness among journalists about international humanitarian laws and their applicability to armed conflict . From 1992 – 2000, Munoz held several positions at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, DC. She began as a project assistant in 1992, became a project coordinator in 1993, a program associate in 1995 and a senior program associate in 1999.
Munoz holds a master’s degree in international relations and a bachelor’s degree in government and politics, both from the University of Maryland. She studied at the Center for International Studies in Madrid as an undergraduate and speaks Spanish.
