Approximately 20 women mid-level managers from former Soviet Republics will convene to participate in the three-day training program, which will build leadership skills and prepare the women to be effective leaders in the news media. Participants will also learn secrets of success from outstanding women leaders in the media and form a regional network of women journalists.
Session topics include:
- The status of women in the media and the state of the media industry in former Soviet Republics
- Leadership skills and styles
- Effective communication
- Advocating for oneself and conducting difficult conversations
- The role of journalism in society
- Leading change in newsrooms
A keynote address will be given during the program by Manana Aslamazyan, executive director of Internews Europe, on the role of journalism in society. Aslamazyan helped launch the Glasnost Defense Foundation, Russia’s first freedom of speech organization, in 1991. She has led Internews Russia/the Educated Media Foundation in the creation of numerous innovative and ambitious projects such as a month-long journalism school, the News Factory newsroom automation project and the Russian-American Media Entrepreneurship Dialogue.
The Lithuania Leadership Institute is generously funded by the Kazickas Family Foundation. Additionally, Air Baltic and Estée Lauder contributed good and services for the workshop participants.
