What are the goals of the Role of the
Editor Online Course?
The primary goal of the course is to offer women journalists
in the Latin American and Caribbean media the opportunity to build and
improve their skills so they can become effective leaders and good managers
while running efficient newsroom operations.
Who is eligible to apply?
The Role of the Editor Online Course is open to women editors
and aspiring editors working in the media of any country in Latin America
or the Caribbean. Journalists working outside of this region are not
eligible to apply.
Applicants may work in the print, broadcast or Internet news media.
Journalists working in full-time editing or reporting positions will
be given first priority; however, part-time and freelance journalists
will also be considered. Applicants must have a minimum of three years
of experience as journalists.
Will the course be conducted in Spanish or English?
All course work, including reading and written assignments, will be
conducted in English.
How much time will I need to devote
to the course each week?
Students can expect to spend from two to four hours a week on the course.
The flexible structure allows students to view the lectures and do the
assignments on their own time.
How will I participate
in this program?
Students can participate using any computer with Internet and email
access. The minimum computer capacity required is a dial-up Internet
connection with 56K modem.
When will the Role of the
Editor Online Course be held?
The course will start on Monday, October 4 and will end on Friday, November
5.
What is the cost of the program?
There is no application fee or tuition for participants selected for
the program.

What is the deadline?
Completed applications must be received by the IWMF on or before Monday,
September 20, 2004. Incomplete applications or applications
received after the due date will be considered if there is space in
the course.
How many journalists will
be selected?
Up to eighteen women journalists will be selected.
When will selected participants
be notified?
Successful applicants will be notified by September 27.
