Program Initiatives -- International
Since its founding in 1990, the IWMF has held programs with an international focus. These seminars have brought together women journalists from around the world to explore strategies for moving ahead, examine the role of women working in international news and share experiences across borders.
The program that launched IWMF, News in the Nineties, was the first international
gathering of women journalists in the media. In November 1990, the IWMF brought
together 100 women journalists from more than 50 countries to examine the state
of the news industry, news technology, the impact of business and economics
and breaking barriers in the newsroom. The first IWMF Courage
in Journalism Awards were presented at this program.
In 2000, the IWMF organized a second major international conference of women
journalists, Women in the News Media: A Focus on Leadership.
