Maisha Yetu: Media Campaign for Our Lives
In 2002, working with a $1.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the International Women’s Media Foundation created the Maisha Yetu project to enhance the quality and consistency of reporting on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria in Africa. Maisha Yetu was created to give African media the means to become more responsive to their communities and to magnify their efforts in reporting on health. Maisha Yetu means “Our Lives” in Swahili

Program Initiatives -- Latin America
The Latin American Women's Media Initiative is a long-term project being developed by the IWMF to support Latin American women in making their voices heard in media leadership. It was conceived following consultations with women journalists from the region who told the IWMF that they needed training, support and networking opportunities to help move them forward in their careers.
In 2001, the IWMF organized workshops in the region, Creating a Foundation for Leadership, to help define the goals and objectives of the initiative.
Actualidades -- América Latina
La Iniciativa de las Mujeres en los Medios de Comunicación en Latinoamérica es un proyecto de largo plazo desarrollado por la IWMF para ayudar las mujeres de los medios a desarrollar su carrera y tomar puestos de dirección. Fue concebido al cabo de varias consultas con periodistas de la región que acentuarón la necesidad para ellas de conseguir formación y soporte profesional y de constituir una red profesional que destaque toda clase de oportunidades y asi ayudarlas a desarrollar su carrera.
En 2001, la IWMF organizó seminarios en la región titulados Creación de las Bases para el Liderazgo para definir las metas y los objetivos del proyecto.

Role of the Editor Online Course
The IWMF and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin offered women journalists from Latin American and the Caribbean the opportunity to participate in an online course in English to build and improve their leadership and management skills. The five-week online course was held from October 4 to November 5, 2004 with 15 women participating. The course was free of charge.
