Content Analysis
The quantitative aspect of the study involved analyzing the editorial content of a state-owned and a privately owned newspaper in each country, except Kenya, where both newspapers are privately owned, and Malawi, where two privately owned newspapers and one state-owned newspaper were analyzed. The selection criteria for the papers included perceived public recognition, professional reliability, consistency and influence in the market. Researchers assessed the number of articles on public health and on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria as well as their placement, source and subject matter.
