Introduction to Coaching and Feedback

We have discussed some strategies for relating more effectively with your boss. Now we will spend some time discussing strategies for relating more effectively with staff members. This includes providing coaching and feedback, and effectively handling difficult discussions.

 

All too frequently, we as leaders spend too much time on staff members who have problems with their performance, behavior or attitude. However, all employees—whether they are polished or problematic—need coaching and feedback on a regular basis.

 

Coaching is a process of facilitating, guiding, and supporting development and growth. This process can take place informally, though day-to-day interaction, or formally, through periodically scheduled meetings.
