At the front lines of war
September 4, 2013 —
Nour Kelze, winner of the 2013 IWMF Courage in Journalism Award, taught English in Aleppo when the revolution in Syria began. In 2012, she was discovered taking pictures of revolutionary fighters on her cell phone by a well-known war photographer. Since then, Kelze has been on the front lines of the Syrian revolution, recording the human cost of Syria’s fight for democracy. In an exclusive interview with documentary filmmaker Matthew VanDyke, she talks about her decision to become a photojournalist, the challenges of being a woman covering the front lines, and why she doesn’t fear death. |
