Capital B Co-founder Lauren Williams joins IWMF Board of Directors

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is thrilled to announce the newest appointment to its board of directors: Lauren Williams. Williams is a co-founder and the CEO of Capital B, a nonprofit local-national news organization serving Black audiences. She is committed to bettering the news industry by fighting misinformation and disinformation while creating avenues for accessible, representative reporting, specifically for Black communities.

As a member of the board of directors, Williams will focus on how the IWMF can advance the diversification of newsrooms and news stories, ultimately ensuring that underrepresented voices are more prominent in journalism.

“I am excited to join IWMF’s board of directors and be part of a team dedicated to creating a more equitable, trustworthy news media,” Williams said. “If Black and brown people lose trust in journalism, we cannot have a truthful news media—that has serious implications for democracy. I’m proud to be a part of the IWMF’s vital work to make this industry more representative of the communities it serves.”
