My name is Lilian Namagembe. I was born in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. I am a journalist with the Daily Monitor, Uganda’s leading independent daily. I joined the Daily Monitor in 2014, first as an intern, where I was attached to a general news desk as a reporter before specializing in health reporting. I worked with The Makererean, a university newspaper as a chief news reporter in 2012. I have a degree in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University, Uganda’s prestigious and oldest university. In journalism, I have found a voice to speak for the less privileged, highlight issues that affect the common citizen and influence positive change in society. For the three years I have been a journalist, I have used the opportunity to advocate for the health rights of the vulnerable, especially mothers and children who are dying in Uganda because of lack of basic medicines.
