Anna Lawattanatrakul is a Bangkok-based journalist writing for Prachatai English, a non-profit news outlet covering political and social issues. Anna covers LGBTQ rights, gender equality movement, and community rights, and in 2021 was part of the team which won Amnesty International Thailand’s Human Rights Media Award for an investigation into the disappearance of activist in exile Wanchalearm Satsaksit. In 2020, Anna was shortlisted for Asia Centre and Oxfam’s 2019 – 2020 Journalism for An Equitable Asia Award for a story about a 13-year-girl in Chiang Rai who escaped a forced marriage to a 50-year-old man. Anna is also a literary translator. In 2019, they contributed three stories to “This Flower,” a translated volume of Katherine Mansfield’s short stories published by Gammemagie Publishing. Their translation of Benjamin Tausig’s book on sound and music in the 2010 Red Shirt protest, “Bangkok is Ringing: Sound, Constraint, and Protest,” is forthcoming with Soi Press.
