Athelia Knight is an award-winning journalist and Pulitzer Prize finalist. She is currently an adjunct lecturer in journalism at Georgetown University. She is a former reporter for The Washington Post, where she worked for 33 years. At The Washington Post, Knight was a reporter on various staffs, including metro, sports, and investigative news. Her last eight years at The Washington Post were spent working with students interested in journalism careers as assistant director and later director of The Washington Post Young Journalists Development Program, a newsroom initiative to help train the next generation of journalists. Many former high school and college students in the program are working in newsrooms around the country. At Georgetown, she helps students obtain internships and jobs in the news industry. In 2010, she was presented the “Outstanding Faculty Certificate for Commitment to Diversity” by Georgetown University Center for Multicultural Equity and Access and the Student of Color Alliance. She has also been journalism professor at Princeton and Hampton universities.
