Awadia Mahammud is a South Sudanese radio-based journalist with Jamjang FM, stationed at Nuba Mountains in Ruweng state. She works as a reporter and a presenter focusing on issues of youths, health, nutrition and refugee affairs. Her successful work concerning female genital mutilation (FGM) has helped lead to its ban in the community. Awadia Mahmoud also covered issues around early childhood marriage and how to fight it, along with its impact on the future of the girls, and through that, she was recognized for her work on the subject. Awadia is an IWMF African Great Lakes In-Country Fellow from 2017-2018 in South Sudan.
