Budi Nurgianto

Budi Nurgianto began his career in journalism in 2007 when he joined a local newspaper in North Maluku. Since 2008, he has been a contributor to Indonesia’s Tempo Weekly News Magazine. Budi has contributed to Tempo's investigative reporting projects on environmental and corruption issues, especially in North Maluku and Sulawesi. These include reporting on the illegal wildlife trade in North Maluku and the unethical activities of nickel mining businesses in Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. He has also looked into mineral mining on small islands. Currently, Budi is also a member of Tempo's fact-checking team, which is tasked with checking the accuracy of information suspected of containing misinformation or disinformation. Budi had participated in a number of international journalism programs, including the International Visitor Leadership Program (USA, 2015), the Environmental Journalism Conference (Thailand, 2022), and the Trusted Media Summit APAC (Singapore, 2023). He received reporting grants from Internews and the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting. Budi earned his Master of Management from Sam Ratulangi University, Manado.
