Originally from Los Angeles, CA, Cassandra Giraldo is an independent photojournalist based in Brooklyn, New York. She has spent the last three years working as a freelance newspaper photographer in New York City where she works regularly for outlets including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, among others. When not on assignment, her passion is working on issues relating to youth counter-culture and coming of age in a globalized economy. Recently, her work documenting punk youth in St. Petersburg, Russia has been recognized by The New York Photo Awards, Onward Compé, The New York Times Portfolio Review, CENTER Review Sante Fe, and the FotoVisura Spotlight Awards. Giraldo graduated from Skidmore College in 2011 with a BA in International Affairs and French.
