Catesby Holmes is global affairs editor at the US edition of The Conversation, a digital news startup dedicated to democratizing knowledge. There, she helps academic experts worldwide “translate” their research into explanatory, evidence-based journalism that brings breadth and depth to international headlines on migration, mass protests, religious conflict, and more. Catesby also freelances when she can, covering housing, transit, criminal justice, and other cities-related issues for Slate, WIRED, CityLab, and Next City, among other outlets. Prior to The Conversation, Catesby worked at the Open Society Foundations, promoting drug policy reform and public health in Latin America. She began her editorial career at Travel + Leisure magazine. Catesby holds a degree in English from Wesleyan University and an MA from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University. She was a 2006 Fulbright Fellow. Catesby lived abroad for many years but now calls Brooklyn, NY, home. She speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.
