Gabriela Barzallo is a bilingual journalist, documentary filmmaker, and media entrepreneur based in NYC and Ecuador. She is passionate about telling stories from her two worlds: Latin America and the United States. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Media, Culture, and Communications from New York University, and her work focuses on human rights, the environment, immigration, US and LatAm relations, women's rights, etc, emphasizing solutions journalism. She writes for international media outlets in English and Spanish, including Al Jazeera, BBC Future, El País, The Guardian, and others. She has been a fellow of One World Media, Solutions Journalism Network, the International Women’s Media Foundation, and GRID-Arendal. As a media entrepreneur, she has been part of the Google News Initiative and Newmark J’s Entrepreneurial Journalism Creators Program, where she is developing LAT, a bilingual media startup dedicated to telling stories and explaining Latin America & the US to young Latines.
