Jovelle Tamayo (she/her/siya) is an independent documentary photographer, visual journalist and youth educator. She was born in Olongapo City, Philippines, raised in Central New Jersey and currently based in Seattle, Washington. When she’s not on assignment for local and national news outlets, Jovelle is exploring Filipinx identity, the legacy of U.S. militarism and imperialism, and the meaning of “home” through her photography. Jovelle is also a co-founder of the Authority Collective, a group of women, non-binary and transgender image-makers of color working to uplift each other with resources and hold industry decision-makers accountable, and serves on the Board of Directors of the South Seattle Emerald.
