Lakeidra Chavis is a Chicago-based reporter with The Marshall Project, a nonprofit newsroom that covers criminal justice. Prior to joining The Marshall Project, she reported for The Trace, ProPublica Midwest, and NPR stations in Chicago and Alaska. Lakeidra's work often explores complex issues, including the opioid crisis, gangs and gun violence. Lakeidra has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is a 2021 Livingston Award finalist, as well as a co-finalist for the Sheldon Ring Award and MOLLY National Journalism Prize.
