Laura Morel covers courts for the Tampa Bay Times, Florida’s largest newspaper. In 2016, she was among a team of reporters who uncovered Walmart’s excessive use of police resources. Last year, she was chosen for the Reveal Investigative Fellowship, a program created by the Center for Investigative Journalists that provides young reporters of color resources and mentoring to publish an investigative project. As part of the fellowship, Laura published the series “Unlocked and Loaded,” which chronicled Florida’s growing stolen gun problem. Born and raised in Miami, Laura attended Miami Dade College and Emerson College in Boston.
