Shalini Umachandran is Senior Assistant Editor (News Features) at The Times of India. She writes on disability rights, urban issues, gender, migration, politics, environment and the arts, finding intersections between these to focus on the people and the news. She has blogged for The Rockefeller Foundation’s Informal City Dialogues and has previously worked at The Hindu in Chennai and The Economic Times in Bangalore. She’s the author of You Can Make Your Dreams Work, her first book, which narrates 15 stories of people who switched careers to pursue what they love. She holds an MA in human rights education from the University of Madras, a postgraduate diploma in journalism from the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai, and an undergraduate degree in accounting and commerce.
