Shanshan Chen is a journalist, filmmaker and photographer based in London. She is a multimedia producer with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, focusing on under-reported stories including humanitarian crises, LGBT rights, mental health, women’s rights, climate changes and social innovations in the forms of short documentaries, 360 videos and interactive websites. Her films have appeared on international media including BBC, TIME, KCET LinkTV (USA), the Atlantic, Al Jazeera English, Tencent (China), Internazionale (Italy) and the Irish Times and held screenings at British Film Institute (BFI), Bertha DocHouse and Chinese Visual Festival. In 2016, she was commissioned by TIME to make a short film about the legacy of China’s family planning rules and in 2017 she made a film about migrants from war torn countries in China funded by One World Media. Shanshan studied TV and broadcast journalism at Shanghai International Studies University and documentary filmmaking at Royal Holloway, University of London.
