Shuran Huang (she/her) is a Cantonese photojournalist based in Washington, D.C. Through moments of intimacy, her work focuses on politics, immigration, human rights, diaspora experiences, and interactions in between. She speaks fluent English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and Spanish. Born in mainland China to a translator mother and an epidemiologist father, their community service helps Shuran understand the meaning of commitment and her international living experience in diverse yet disadvantaged areas influences her to develop a passion for humanity and unity. Shuran often confronts the reality of assimilating and adapting to new communities, which develops her dedication to elevate and empower communities through visual storytelling. Shuran has studied at Syracuse University and Hong Kong Baptist University. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Thomson Reuters, National Geographic, National Public Radio, etc. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University. Shuran is a proud member of the National Press Photographers Association, Asian American Journalist Association, Women Photojournalists of Washington, and Women Photograph. Shuran received numerous awards, including a Grand Prize for the 2018 Photo District News’ Faces Portrait Photography Contest. 黃舒然是一位駐美國首都華盛頓的華裔攝影記者。她的作品關注政治、移民、人權、離散族群 等問題。她會說流利英語、普通話、粵語、韓語和西班牙語。 舒然出生在中國大陸。母親是一位翻譯人員,父親是一位流行病學家。他們對社會的貢獻讓舒 然從小就懂得奉獻的意義。而舒然曾在多個國家的成長經歷讓她常常需要適應不同的文化背 景,這進一步堅定了她在作品中表達人性和統一的理念。她致力於通過視覺敘事的方式來啟 發社區並帶來積極影響。 舒然曾就讀於雪城大學和香港浸會大學。她的作品曾被刊登在《華盛頓郵報》、《紐約時報》、 《華爾街日報》、《國家地理》、路透社、美國國家公共廣播電台等各大媒體。她目前 還擔任聖心大學的客座教授。 舒然是美國國家新聞攝影師協會、亞裔美國記者協會、華盛頓女性攝影記者和女性攝影協會 的成員之一。 她曾獲得多個獎項,包括 2018 年 Photo District News 的人臉肖像攝影大賽金獎。
