Vanessa Charlot (She/her) is a documentary photographer living and working between St. Louis, Missouri and Miami, Florida. She shoots primarily in black and white to explore the immutability of the collective human experience and to disrupt compositional hierarchy. Her work focuses on the intersectionality of spirituality, socio-economic issues and sexual/gender expression. The purpose of her work is to produce visual representations of varied human existences that are free of an oppressive gaze.
Vanessa will also be in a unique position as part of the selected cohort to take part in the training as our voice between the committee and those in training.
“This project equips journalists with the capability to be conscious of how their identity impacts their safety within dynamic situations and for them to have the skills they need to keep themselves safe while sharing pertinent stories with the world.”
