A few years ago, women in Suchitoto decided to go around the town and stencil these small signs on all the houses. The project allowed them to talk more publicly about what are often considered private matters. “Why do we need these signs?” “Why violence against women?” people asked. Now, the stencils are part of the fabric of the town. When townmembers have their houses repainted, they ask for a copy of the stencil so they can replicate the image.
