As we leave Chiapas we can begin sharing some of the stories. The passage of people from El Salvador fleeing gang violence and the need for them to remain unidentified makes it challenging for us to capture their journey. Around many of the shelters gang members were seen and they often follow migrants across the border of Guatemala. As a photographer I had to look for the detail in the absence of faces. Looking for other symbols of each persons story. In the shelters we visited across the area it was clear that images of hands and feet would play a part in building the narrative around migration. The dirt and hard skin presented us with a part of the story of moving across borders for a life of safety and opportunity.
