Greetings from Rwanda’s tiniest welcoming committee! We pulled up to the
Ntarama Memorial and were immediately greeted by these little ones. They
chattered in Kinyarwanda, reaching for our hands with their tiny ones.
Pens? Bottles?
“Don’t encourage them,” warned our fixer. “They’re supposed to be in
school!”
The government apparently provides 12 years of free education, and parents
want to make sure their kids aren’t missing out.
They were the only ones to approach us. But they were a welcome sight–tiny
bright faces after a day of sobering tours of the country’s genocide
memorials.
