I was focused on my watch. We had a late start and the location was about an hour further out than expected. Time on my watch said 12:40, we were planning on being there at 11:00. We had to leave by 15:00 to get back in time before dark. We were offered lunch on our arrival, but I felt I needed to talk to people right away and find a farmer in the field. They obliged until after our return to the center from talking to a farmer, then they insisted on lunch. The meal was wonderful and fresh. We informed them we’d have to eat quickly to get back on the road on time. When we finished multiple helpings they informed us we had to plant a tree. There was no politely backing out, especially as we walked to the site and I saw the plaque they made. “This Neem Tree was planted by Mrs. Elizabeth Conley, Feb. 22th, 2017.” I had been so focused on time on my watch, I almost missed the gift of the moment. Now my time there will be forever marked by the pace of a tree’s growth, seems like a good marker.
