Meet Malavika Vyawahare, Tanzania Fellow: “I shy away from heroic descriptions of journalism as giving a voice to the voiceless; this glorifies what could easily be mere translation from a tongue unknown to me. I see my reporting as bringing all those with a stake in an issue to the table, where they can engage as equals. In places where such a dialogue seems almost impossible is the work most satisfying, and so it was in the African Great Lakes region.”
