NPR is pretty popular amongst us nerds in America. But in Africa, radio is
king! Radio soap operas are especially popular, including the long-running
soap Musekeweya, a Romeo-and-Juliet style drama about a boy and girl from
different hills who fall in love and the peace they’ve got to work towards
in their respective villages.
Today, the actors performed their lines in a tiny (semi) soundproof room,
complete with scripts strewn across the floor and a director yelling at
them through the glass.
They took off their shoes to keep out the extra sounds, and slammed their
hands against the felt-covered walls for “special effects.”
