On Sunday, I spent the day with Lisa reporting from the tiny island of Misali, an uninhabited mass of land off the western coast of Pemba. Climate change is what brought Lisa to Pemba. I came because of youth and Islam. This old man had nothing to do with either of my stories, but the image of him–quietly sorting through mounds of seaweed beside his makeshift campsite–made an impression. And he was kind enough to let me share it.
