The literary heritage of Ciudad Juárez
On Saturday, I participated in the first literary tour of downtown Juárez. Juaritos Literario organised the activity as part of their efforts to preserve and spread the literary heritage of the city. Urani, Amalia and Antonio guided a big group through the busy downtown streets. Each time we stopped, they read out passages from relevant novels, short stories or poems. One of the stops was at the legendary Kentucky Club bar, which claims the invention of the Margarita cocktail. There we heard a passage from “Everything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club”, a collection of short stories by Chicano writer Benjamin Alire Sáenz.
