There are 25,000 street children living in Kinshasa. With the high fertility rates and the urban sprawl, the number is only expected to go up. Whilst in Congo as a fellow of @theiwmf, I spoke to some of these children for Al Jazeera English.

One of them was a 16-year-old sex worker. Her family wanted to marry her off to a senior man, so she ran away from home. “If I have to, I prefer being a sex worker to being a young wife,” she said. If I was in her shoes, I think I would do exactly the same.
