This morning, firefights more severe than usual erupted up north, in the
town of Kokola and other areas nearby. MONUSCO armed vehicles have deployed
along the N4, the main road leading up from Beni.

They’re here to protect places like Ngadi, where one year ago militants
believed to be ADF killed several people, including 17-year-old Kabuo
Clarisse, daughter of Kahumbo Kahindo, 50, pictured here speaking with
Zahra.

It was too dark that evening in mid-October for the townspeople to see the
assailants clearly.
