Today marks the official end of our Uganda reporting fellowship, which is
strange and bittersweet. This is the first time I’m even posting since we
were in Nairobi for security training, and for a good reason: The past week
has been a tiring one, seemingly endless to the extent that it felt much
longer than seven days. All of us fellows packed as much we could into
every single day, whether it was reporting the stories we pitched, chasing
after the ideas (and sources) that came to our attention once we landed, or
checking out possible ventures to look into for the future. The fact that
we’ve been here during election season has also helped to put a pulse to
our excursions, since many of us ended up meeting with government officials
and asking them those questions dignitaries might not like to answer… 🙂

One of the most rewarding things I can say about this fellowship is that it
made me hungry for the world again. Kind of mushy to say, I know, but it’s
true, especially given that many of us are freelancers struggling to figure
out to make our lives possible. Never in my life did I imagine I would one
day get the chance to report in Uganda, and now I’m left wanting to do more
