We set out at 5am to get to the Albertine region to begin reporting on
the effects of the oil sector’s development. After linking up with a
local journalist and an area councilman, we spent some time at the
Rwamutonga IDP (internally displaced persons) camp. 255 families,
totaling over 1,000 people were violently evicted to clear land for an
oil waste management site. The company involved, McAlister Energy, has
since pulled out of the project.

security; often families will eat only one meal in order to conserve
food.
