We know how important it is to care for both physical and mental health. Just like a risk assessment or security protocols, journalists need a self-care plan when exposed to work-related trauma . In an effort to promote more attention to self-care in our work, we have begun to offer yoga classes during our Hostile Environment and First-Aid Trainings (HEFAT). Outside of our HEFAT training, we also host regular yoga classes for our community of female journalists in the DC area, which are created and led by a certified yoga instructor trained in trauma-sensitive yoga practices. To receive emails about upcoming yoga classes, please sign up for our mailing list below.
If you are looking for resources to practice wherever you may be, take a look at the videos above! The solar and lunar yoga practices were designed by Dr. Elizabeth Welty of Flow Studios Belfast for a retreat for conflict journalists in Corrymeela, Northern Ireland that was developed by our very own Fund for Women Journalists grantee Angelina Fusco.
